what is a cv and why is it important
As you leave school or college and go about looking for a job and building a career, you’ll hear the term CV thrown around quite a lot. Sadly, some schools and colleges are so focused on your academic performance, or teaching you your particular skills, that they forget to prepare you for the big wide world of work and many students are unaware of even how to write a good CV. The fact is that no-matter what you want to do or what you’ve trained as or even how good you are – your CV will be, without doubt, the single most important part of getting a job.
Where to start?
Okay, so let’s start at the beginning. The C.V stands for Curriculum Vitae (which is Latin and just means your story) In America they call a CV a Resume – but it’s just the same thing. The CV is a list of your qualifications, work experience, achievements and progress during your ‘working career’. It does allow you to talk a little bit about your personal hobbies and interests, but this is only a very small part of a CV. It shows your name and contact details at the top and then lists all your work experiences in date order starting with your most recent at the top. But we’ll talk about structure a bit later on.
Layout and Length
So as a school or college leaver, you need to have a CV that you can send prospective employers. Let’s talk about the layout and length. Remember that some employers will want you to send them a hard-copy CV, one that is laid out in paper. Some jobs ask you to send your CV online, so you’ll need to have a CV that you can send as an attachment. Both will need to follow the same layout and length. So here we go.
Presentation goes a long way to impressing the reader. And for good reasons, because if you’ve taken care on the look and layout of your CV, then it shows you care. If it looks sloppy and has spelling mistakes, then why should an employer take you seriously? So, even if you don’t have lots of experience, there’s no reason why your CV can’t look smart.
Your CV should be about a page long (definitely no more than two pages) start with your name, address, phone numbers and mobile phone number if you have one.
After this you should start with your most recent work experience. So if you are currently doing a job or even a part-time job, start with this and date it from when you started. Then list any previous jobs or work experiences working backwards in date order. If you only have part-time jobs then put them down too. Try to bring out anything of interest that you have done in these jobs, or any skills you learnt. Try to show that you weren’t just ‘going through the motions’ at these jobs. If you don’t have very much work experience, show some events or experiences that you have taken part in; such as a sponsored run, or any courses you have been on.
Use a smart typeface such as Times New Roman, Arial or Verdana. These look good and are clear to read. 12 point is fine.
NB: if you are studying for a creative job, such as design or art direction, you can impress with your CV layout but you should make it smart and easy to read!
Your CV should be laid out under the following headings and sub-headings:
Name and contacts details
Put your name, e-mail, address and telephone contacts numbers
Work experience
List any work you have done from the present to your first job. Remember, it doesn’t have to have been paid work
Education and Qualifications
List your qualification and the schools or colleges you attained them. You can do this in date order for simplicity
Key skills
List any skills you have apart from you qualifications, i.e. – you are good with people or you have IT or nursing skills etc etc.
Personal interests
Take a few lines to show any hobbies or pastimes you have (if they relate to the job you are applying for, so much the better)
Referees
Name two people and their address (not relatives), who may be contacted by the employer for a reference.
Try to keep your CV interesting to read and informative. Not too long, but not too short either. And remember; remember to do a spell check. Bad spelling is a complete ‘no-no’ and it’s avoidable. Finally, get someone to read it over, preferably a course tutor or teacher, who can check the grammar and give you some feedback.
Once it’s ready, you can always amend it or add to it as your experience grows. Good luck.

Love of Allah
The
love of Allah should occupy man's heart and get total possession of it;
and if it does not seize it entirely, it should at least outweigh the
love of all other things in it. Allah Says about the believers, (what
means): "He loves them and they love Him," [Quran 5:54] and the Prophet(saw) said: "A man would not have attained faith until and unless he loves Allah and His Messenger more than anything else." (Al-Bukhari)
When angel of death came to take the soul of Prophet Ibraaheem, may
Allah exalt his mention, the latter said, "Have you ever seen a friend
take his friend's life?" To that, Allah replied, "Have you ever seen a
friend unwilling to see his friend?" Then Ibraaheem, may Allah exalt his
mention said, "O Angel of death! Take my soul!" The Prophet taught the following supplication to his Companions, "O
Allah, allow me to love You and to love those who love You, and to love
whatsoever brings me nearer to Your love, and make Your love more
precious to me than cold water to the thirsty." (At-Tirmithi)
Al-Hassan Al-Basri used to say, "He who knows Allah, loves Him."
Causes of the love of Allah
The
first cause is man's love for himself and his drive to perfect his own
creation. This leads directly to loving Allah because man's very
existence and attributes are but the gift of Allah whose grace and
kindness have brought man from behind the curtain of non-existence into
this visible world. Man's preservation and eventual attainment of
perfection are also entirely dependent upon Allah's grace. It would
indeed be a wonder if one should take refuge from the heat of the Sun
under the shadow of a tree and not be grateful to the tree, without
which there would be no shadow at all. On precisely the same way, were
it not for Allah, man would have neither existence nor attributes at
all.
The
second cause of this love is that man loves his benefactor, and in
truth, his only Benefactor is Allah, for whatever kindness man receives
from fellow-creatures is due to the immediate instigation of Allah.
Whatever the motive that may have prompted the kindness he receives from
others, Allah is the One who set that motive to work.
The
third cause of man's love of Allah is his contemplation of the
beautiful Attributes of Allah, His Power and Wisdom, of which human
power and wisdom are but the feeblest reflections.
Signs of the love of Allah
Many claim to love Allah. But each should examine himself as to the genuineness of the love which he professes.
The
first test of how genuine the love is this: he should not dislike the
thought of death, for no friend shrinks away from going to see a dear
and beloved friend. The Companion Abu Moosa Al-Asha'ri, may Allah be
pleased with him, narrated that the Prophet Muhammad(saw) said, "Whoever wishes to meet Allah, Allah wishes to meet him." (Al-Bukhari)
It
is true, one who sincerely loves Allah may shrink away from the thought
of dying before he is fully prepared to meet his beloved One in the
Next World, but one would think, he should work diligently to prepare
for that sure meeting ahead of time.
The
second test is that one should be willing to sacrifice his own will to
Allah's; should cling to what brings him nearer to Him; and should shun
all that distances him from Allah. One's commission of sins is no proof
that one does not love Allah at all, but it proves that he does not love
Him with his whole heart. Al-Fudhayl Ibn ‘Iyaadh
once said, "If any one asks you whether you love Allah, keep silent;
for if you say, `I do not love Him,' you are a nonbeliever; and if you
say, ‘I do' your deeds may contradict your claim.”
The
third test is that the remembrance of Allah should always remain fresh
in one's heart, for what one loves, one constantly remembers; and if
that love is perfect, one would never forget it.
The fourth test is that he will love the Quran, which is the Word of Allah, revealed to Muhammad(saw) who is the Prophet of Allah; in fact, if his
love is really strong, it will encompass the whole creation, for he who loves any one, loves the works he composes.
The
fifth test is that he covets retirement and privacy for the purpose of
worship and devotion; he longs for the approach of night so that he may
hold association with his Friend without hindrance. If he prefers
conversation by day and sleep at night to such retirement, then, his
love is imperfect.
The
sixth test is that worship becomes easy. A righteous man once said,
"Over a span of thirty years, I performed my night-devotions with great
difficulty, but during the course of the next thirty years they became a
delight." When love to Allah is complete, no joy is equal to the joy of
worship.
The
seventh test is that one loves those who obey Allah and detest those
who disbelieve in Him and disobey Him. Allah the Almighty Says (what
means): "You will not find a people who believe in
Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and
His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their
brothers or their kindred. Those - He has decreed within their hearts
faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to
gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah
is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him - those are the
party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah is the successful." [Quran 18:22]
way of the salaf
Our Salaf (righteous predecessors)
would admonish themselves and hold themselves to account, while we on
the other hand, who are far worthier of such reproach, are utterly
heedless of this, despite committing actions that are destructive and
despite being afflicted with diseases of the heart and soul that require
major reformation.
We must ask ourselves the following questions:
- Do we fear Allah as He should be feared?
- Do we cry out of fear of Him as our Salaf would do?
- Are we moved when we hear verses of the Qur’aan being recited?
- Do our hearts shiver and tremble from fear when Allah is mentioned and therefore rush to obey and please Him?
Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {“Allah
has sent down the best statement: a consistent book wherein is
reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord;
then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance [i.e.,
mention] of Allah…”} [Quran, 39: 23]
Calling
ourselves to account frees the soul from being captive to its desires
and lusts; it frees it from the darkness of misguidance and maintains it
upon the Straight Path. Allah The Almighty encourages Muslims to do
this by saying (what means): {“O you who have believed! Fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow…”} [Quran, 59: 18]
Examples of the Salaf in calling themselves to account
‘Umar,
may Allah be pleased with him, said, “Call yourself to account when you
are in bliss before the reckoning of that severe Day, for whoever calls
himself to account when he is in bliss will win the pleasure of Allah
and achieve happiness, and whoever allows his life and desires to occupy
all his attention and cause him to be negligent will be a regretful
loser.”
While
he was the caliph, ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, would call
himself to account. Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated, “One
day I was walking in the company of ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with
him, then he entered a garden by himself; I overheard him from behind a
fence of the garden saying to himself: `O son of Al-Khattaab! I swear by
Allah that either you maintain yourself upon piety, or Allah will
punish you.'”
Maalik bin Deenaar
said, “Allah will be merciful with the slave who asks himself: `Didn’t
you do such and such?` and reproaches himself for doing so, then forces
himself to adhere to the commandments of Allah and leads himself to
righteousness.”
Maymoon bin Mahraan said, “A pious believer holds himself to account more severely than a stingy man does with his business partner."
Once Imaam Al-Maroozi said to Imaam Ahmad “How is your morning?” He replied, “My morning is that of one whose Lord is commanding him to fulfil his obligations, whose Messenger
is demanding him to apply his Sunnah (tradition), who has two angels
requesting him to reform his actions, whose lower self is leading him to
give in to his desires, who has Satan beautifying sin and immorality
for him, who has the angel of death awaiting the command to take his
soul, and whose family is asking for provision.”
How
many times do we hear the mention of Hellfire without being moved? Does
it not contain all forms of punishments or terror, the mention of which
would rent asunder a mountain, if it were to hear it, out of fear of
Allah The Almighty?
A
Muslim should rebuke himself for not being moved or affected when
hearing verses that address the Hereafter, punishment in Hellfire, and
the general mention of Allah The Almighty and His might. Undoubtedly, we
are busy with our worldly concerns and our sins are too many, and
therefore we must exert far greater effort in holding ourselves to
account.
Our Salaf would prefer hiding their good deeds from others, as this helps a person maintain his sincerity of intention. Conversely, people nowadays like to show off and love others praising them for the good deeds that they witness them performing; this is certainly something that requires self-rebuke in order to straighten our hearts and souls.

business hint
considering the increasing and alarming number of unemployed Nigerians, i
vow to my self to always help Nigerians see and utilize business
opportunities.
Starting a home business is a path that many take to quench many problems, because people feel they can be happier and more productive while making more money working for themselves.
However, working for yourself has its own disadvantages, especially if you are not accustomed to independent working, and these must be considered carefully when making such a move.
For those who know they are making the right move in starting a home business, and have patience and determination, there are many ideas available online, to help compliment, guide, or even create, the ideas that make many home businesses flourish. Depending on what you plan to do, it always helps to have a business plan which supports your strengths as a person.
For example, if you know programming and web development skills, then the services field will be more suitable for you.. What subjects do you take interest in the most, and what do you succeed best at doing? For those in need of guidance, these points will help you to startup your home business ideas:
1. Be Creative – There is nothing better than being original, and others will respect you for it. If you have an idea that you know will find its place in a gap in the market, your originality will be your greatest ally.
2. Motivation - The factors involved in success require that you enjoy working from home. Choose something you know you will enjoy. Something you have pursued as a hobby for example, makes an ideal choice if it can be made into a viable business proposition.
3. Use common business sense – Selling and advertising houses in the romance section of nairaland instead of properties shows that you are not utilizing your common sense.
4. One step at a time – Do not be jaded by slow progress or setbacks. These are natural as with anything in life. What is important is that you regard each step as something to do with the best of your ability, not simply to rush and move on.
5. Keep organized – The financial, legal, and bureaucratic aspects of your business, like any business, are unavoidable, and must be undertaken efficiently. It may not be your favorite aspect, but it is crucial to the livelihood of your business that you stay on top of things.
6. Perseverance - The most difficult part of beginning a home business is often in the canvassing, research and set-up, so perseverance is key here.
7. sincerity/honesty.- be sincere and honest with whom ever you deal with in the course of your business. he will either come back for a different service or refer other customers that will patronize you with thousands of dollars.
As you embark on your home based business, i pray that this tips will help you to succeed in your home business
